Project Context and Description

As part of the MICROMED program to support Tunisia in the development of microfinance, implemented by the Luxembourg organization ADA and financed by the European Investment Bank and International Cooperation in Luxembourg, AMEF Consulting participated in a project to restructure microcredit associations (MCA) in the governorates of Bizerte and Siliana. The objective of this project is to support the merger of these CMAs into a single regional microfinance institution (MFI) by governorate (region) under the new microfinance law of 2011.

Work Done by AMEF Consulting

  • Visits to MCAs in the governorates of Bizerte and Siliana, and meetings with their officials to diagnose the situation and raise awareness about the appropriateness of the proposed merger
  • Study of the microfinance market in Bizerte governorate
  • Development of the business plan of the new regional MFI of the governorate of Bizerte using the MICROFIN tool
  • Presentation and discussion with the Microfinance Control Authority of the new MFI’s business plan to prepare its application for accreditation.
